Edwardian terrace

Brief

Located in a quiet residential street in West Hampstead, North London, this project is a full refurbishment of a typical Edwardian terraced house.

The design brief focused on extending the house both vertically and to the rear, improving natural light and strengthening the relationship between the interior and the garden. The open-corner rear extension dissolves the boundary between inside and outside, creating a generous living space that opens directly onto the greenery of the garden.

A very homely and calm palette has been used in the kitchen area, with soft grey microcement surfaces that gently reflect the natural light coming from the frameless skylight above the dining area.

A classic herringbone parquet floor has been proposed in the living area to introduce a more historical character to the front rooms, creating an interesting contrast with the brighter tones of the kitchen and dining space.

Improving the thermal performance of the house formed a key part of the brief. New insulation has been added to all external walls, along with high-performance double-glazed windows and acoustic insulation to party walls, significantly enhancing internal comfort
